Emily's Home Makeover (and Total Refurnishing)

With Overstock's help, I was able to refurnish my apartment after losing everything in last summer's crane accident.

On June 9, 2019 an unexpected storm swept through Dallas. Within a few minutes it went from clear, sunny skies, to heavy rains and even stronger winds. Just as I went to look out the window, a construction crane from the development across the street came crashing down on top of our apartment complex. (You can read more about the accident here.) Hugo(my boyfriend) and I were out of the building within 30 seconds... but I never would have thought that was the last time we would step foot inside our apartment. Some tenants were able to access their units to get their belongings out, but unfortunately, our particular unit was too close to the accident. The building condemned a few days later. Every tenant (over 400 units) had to find another place to live within a week. Let me tell you..we were STRESSED...but we found a place and got the keys the following Friday.

We had a new apartment, but no belongings. That’s when Overstock stepped in! They so graciously partnered with us to help make this empty shell a home. We thought of the look and feel we wanting to achieve, and their website made it SO easy to find exactly that! They have an abundance of unique and special pieces. The standout for me is the couch...I have never seen anything like it. So chic but with a glam feel. We pretty much based the whole design over that couch! Everything else just fell in line with the black and white theme we had going on. Now, every time I walk in, I feel more at home than I ever have in any apartment.

Both Hugo and I want to take a moment here and say how grateful we are to not only have this beautiful space to call our own, but to come out of this situation unharmed. Not all can say the same. And for that, we count our blessings everyday. So thank you, Overstock, for giving us the opportunity to create our own safe haven that we will enjoy for a very long time.
