Founded on a dedication to preservation and exploration, Proud Mary is an ever-changing collection of authentic, handmade products, headquartered in Charleston, SC. The company came to life in 2008, when founder Harper Poe saw a wealth of potential in the local textiles while volunteering in Chile. A wanderlust traveler with a deep appreciation for new cultures, Harper found that every handmade, woven textile she came across was authentic; it had a soul. And with a refreshed perspective and bit of modernization, she knew her own community would love them.
Using native Alpaca wool, a naturally organic, renewable and sustainable fiber, our Bolivian partners keep their age-old knitting practices alive while staying committed to ethical practices. As one of the more marginalized countries in South America, due to informal economy and an inland position, these talented artisans produce intricate knitwear that are fair to both people, animals and the earth.
